GRANT MAKING FOCUS
Tom J. and Edna M. Carson established the TJEMCF because of their concern for the young people of Adair County. Since the foundation's inception, TJEMCF has supported a broad range of projects, giving its highest priority consideration to tangible projects that demonstrate strong potential to effect lasting positive change for the youth of Adair County.

ELIGIBILITY AND TYPES OF SUPPORT
The Tom J. and Edna M. Carson Foundation only grants funds to organizations that have been
recognized by the IRS as being described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Board of Directors of the Tom J. and Edna M. Carson Foundation awards grants ranging from $1,000
to $150,000. Funded project designs often reflect a blend of the applicant's initiative and the
foundation's input. Applicants may apply for one-year or multi-year grants for their project.

                                                                                                       Information
Letter of Inquiry
The first step in applying to the foundation is a short letter of inquiry ("LOI"). Letters may be submitted at any time during the year. LOl'S should be one to two pages long, and should include the following:
•	a brief statement of the issues to be addressed, the history and goals of your organization, and your organization's involvement with these issues
•	a brief summary of the activities or the organization for which you are requesting support, including an outline of your objectives and anticipated outcomes and implications
•	the approximate starting date and duration that the funding will cover
•	the total amount of funding needed, the amount requested from the foundation, and information about other sources of support, both assured and requested
•	contact information and EIN for the organization
•	a copy of the IRS letter determining 501(c)(3) nonprofit status for your organization

Proposals
Full proposals will be accepted by invitation only. Because the foundation requests more proposals than it can fund, you should not interpret such a request as an indication of likely support.
